IJN exchanged Val's engine to "kinsei-54":1,300HP from "kinsei"-44:1,080HP for solve D3A1's lack of power. The other change points are add spinner, modify it's cowling side aspect to roundly, sharp canopy back,and level tail wingarea increased. Jan.1943 D3A2 became official adoption. Speed, climbing ,bomb installation weight improves but range decreased .

Camouflage was only one kind , the top face darkgreen, under face gray.
