Participating artists: Theresa Hak Kyung Chai1951`1982j Born in Korea in 1951. She emigrated to San Francisco in 1964, and began making films, videos and performance pieces in the 1970s. In 2001 the University of California Berkeley Art Museum organized the retrospective The Dream of the Audience: Theresa Hak Kyung Cha (1951-1982). The exhibition has traveled throughout the United States as well as to Seoul and Vienna. Park Youngsook Born in 1941. She began her career as a photographer in 1975, and started producing the gMad Woman Seriesh in 1999. She participated inthe women's art festival, gPatjis on Parade,h in 1999, and in theGwangju Biennale in 2002. She is an active member of FAN (Feminist Art Network, Korea.) Yun Suknam Born in northeastern China (Manchuria) in 1939. She is a pioneer in the Korean feminist art movement which has grown popular since the 1990's, and has had solo exhibitions at the Kamakura Gallery, and theIlmin Museum of Art in Seoul in 2003. She is an active member of FAN (Feminist Art Network, Korea). Mako Idemitsu@ Born in 1940. A forerunner in independent film and video art in Japan,Idemitsu has tackled gender issues and mother-child relationships. Her works are in permanent collections at the Museum of ModernArt,New York, and the Pompidou Center in Paris. Yoshiko Shimada Born in 1959. Her works examine women's positionality in the recent history of Japan. Her works have been exhibited extensively internationally, including at the DeAppel in Amsterdam in 2001, and the Gwangju Biennale in 2002. Tari Ito Born in 1951. A performance artist, her works concern the body andsexualityfrom a feminist viewpoint. She has performed at numerousinternational art exhibitions and festivals throughout Asia, Europe andthe U.S. She performed gWhere is the Fear?h at the gEast Asian Women and Herstoriesh festival in Seoul in 2002. Fumiko Takahashi Born in 1960. Since 1994, she has participated in numerous international performance art festivals in Europe, the United States and East Asia.
