About the Show

Through this exhibition, we explore meanings of the word gborderlineh in relation to our own societies and nations, as well as at the level of individuals who are imagined to be gothers.h The word gborderlineh can be used to referto the boundaries between countries, boundaries in general, and theborderline between gsanity and insanity.h Park Youngsook adds to these the issue of gender and captures the fragility of women's positions on these borderlines. Theresa Hak Kyung Cha explored the question of identity that is constantly created and reshaped in between nations and languages. The works of these artists raise questions about the myth of a singular identity.
What about our own positionality? Are we protected by the national borders of this island country? Do these borders define us or give us stability and security? Japanese women artists respond to these questions, each with her own form of artistic expression. The audience is invited to participatethrough viewing the works and joining in the workshop. We hope this show will create opportunities for an open dialogue based onrespect for diverse cultures, perspectives and ideas.
